Truth Be Told…

I’ve lived most of my life like Mystique from the X-men movies…

… morphing into whoever I thought the people around me needed me to be. I imagine that’s what it must be like trying to play every part in a movie – exhausting. A part of me gets lost along the way.

Recently, while updating my resumé, I noticed I was feeling embarrassed and ashamed.  Most people I know have had the same job, or at least been in the same field, since college. This has not been my experience, so I thought this somehow made me unsuccessful by traditional standards.

The more time I spent on it, the more I saw, on paper, how I’ve had the opportunity and desire to try many different things over the years. The story I’ve been telling myself is that I haven’t found my groove, and that I will never be a success because I don’t stick to one thing. The judgment around that is so heavy, and yet there’s freedom in admitting that that’s just not how I’m built. 

I love variety

I love finding new ways to express my creativity. I love having big dreams about living life fully expressed and completely outside the box. That’s what my resumé represents to me. That’s my truth. (My resumé should really have some glitter on it.) My path doesn’t have to look like anybody else’s, and truth be told, I would probably be bored if it did.

I’ve heard a friend say that he’s pretty much the same person everywhere he goes. I sat there in awe.  What would that feel like?

What if…?

So, instead of wondering who others need us to be, what if we stand in our powerful Truth?

What if we give ourselves permission to be who we came here to be?

What if our hearts sing because we do what excites us?

What if we put down the magnifying glass, the one we use to highlight our flaws, and start celebrating the fact that we are all walking miracles?

Now that’s a truth I can get behind.
