Dear friends,
Here we are in the middle of summer.
As the days get long and the temperatures rise, we’d usually be getting ready for beach gatherings, vacations, barbecues, and fireworks. This year is different and with every landmark date or season, this different world in which we find ourselves is truly reflected back to us.
What we have found interesting is that we choose our “monthly themes” way in advance and yet looking at the idea of “character” seems very appropriate right now. Who we are, how we move in the world, how we relate to others is really being called into play.
What is Character?
Abraham Lincoln said: Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
As we look at the large events taking place around the world and those in our smaller communities, we see the blossoming of change as we get to the “real thing”. Like no other time in recent history, we actually have the space to reflect upon our own sense of character.
Our deepest desire is that our articles inspire you – allowing your proudest, truest self to emerge.
Here’s what’s coming up…
This month we have two new writers that we hope will become regular contributors; corporate consultant and storyteller – Cheryl Farrell – and home and lifestyle design expert – Marjorie Rothstein.
We will also feature Lisa Rogers’ very popular series that chronicles her journey to living plastic-free.
Our everyday hero this month features Max LaZebnik, in the front lines at Trader Joe’s.
Coming in mid July, we highlight the wonderful photographer, Carl Studna, as our artist this month.
Aid Still Required is our charity this month!
And, of course, more of Jean’s reliable recipes and our writers’ personal stories, too.

I just read your article in “Guideposts” magazine and I’ve prayed for Alex and your family. My heart goes out to you. I will continue to pray for your husband’s health. I appreciate your posts here as well. As a follower of Jesus Christ, it important to note, that there are not many ways to heaven. Jesus states clearly, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me. “As a child I learned that Jesus was important as a Catholic,, but I came to realize that His death was personal- it created a bridge to the Father. His death and shed blood on the cross, if that sacrifice was personally accepted for my sins, by repentance, would be enough for me to know Him and a way for me to go to heaven. This is why He died for me, and all those who accept Him into their heart. By accepting Jesus into my heart, Jesus would come into my heart and save me from my sins and shame. This is why Jesus came to earth to die. He would also give me abundant life, full of meaning, here on earth. If you would like this abundant life, strength to live each day, forgiveness of your sins and a home in heaven when you die, just pray a prayer like this: “Jesus, I know you came to earth to die for my sins. Please forgive me of my sins and come into my heart. Make a way for me to have a personal relationship with you and give me eternal life through the power of your blood. I ask this in your Name, the Name of Jesus, Amen”This is an exciting adventure and peace like you have never known when you receive Jesus. Blessing to you, Cookie Sanders

I just read your article online from Guideposts. I can truly relate to your situation. Every night my husband and I watched Jeopardy and enjoyed it so much for , literally, years. When Mr. Trebek announced he had pancreatic cancer my husband and I were devastated. But, we could relate. My husband was diagnosed with leukemia in March of 2017. We’d been thru chemo and all that entails but weren’t getting good results. When he heard about your husband he hung his head and prayed. We have both been so encouraged by his faith and brave heart. Sadly my husband lost his battle last December 20th of 2019. Still, I know he’s with the Lord but I’ve been thru all the emotions and anger. I watch every night still and give a praise that Mr. Trebek is doing so well. I’ve learned to be thankful for the 43 years we had together. Each day, good or bad, is precious and we made so very many good friends along that journey. I cherish that and our time together on earth. Stay strong but scream and throw things when you need too. Just don’t let him see that. God is very good.

Jeopardy has always been one of my favorite programs and always look forward to seeing it. God loves you and ALEXso very much and I will pray concerning ALEX’s health, you are in His loving hands. As was stated by another writer there is only one way to eternal life and that is thru Jesus. I can’t imagine the pain and suffering he endured on the cross for you and I. Sin was the reason He hung on that cross and because of that our lives could ever be changed. Jesus was resurrected from the dead and is now in heaven with our loving Father. I could not even begin to tell you what God has done for me and by the way I am a cancer survivor, God answered my prayer but if I had not survived I know I would be with him. I guess he has more people that he wants me to show the love of God to.
