How Order sparks Creativity.
I truly believe this. Why? When our homes are in order, we free our minds to focus on what brings us the most joy. For me, it’s creativity. Interestingly enough, my craft room is the only area of the house that I allow to be a little messy. When working on my art projects, I like them to be out and breathing. They have a life of their own, and packing them up to make things look tidy doesn’t feel right to me.
Why I Love Creating Peace, Harmony & Joy in Your Home
I haven’t always had this freedom. Five years ago, a friend lent me Marie Kondo’s book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.” My husband and I were living in a beautiful home, but I didn’t like the area at all and had been itching to move for some time. I felt stuck, because it didn’t seem like we could afford anything else in the San Fernando Valley. I decided to go through all our belongings in the order recommended by Marie Kondo, and it was, indeed, life changing. A huge shift occurred when I began only keeping things that spark joy. I was so hooked on the process that I decided to pack our house up to let the Universe know that I meant business and was ready to move. I then felt compelled to share this joy with friends, and that’s how my organizing business began. I wanted to help others create peace, harmony and joy in their homes too.
What to Do When You Feel Stuck
Less than a year later, while still in the same house, I was again feeling frustrated about our living situation, and was talking to a life coach. I was convinced that we had to stay in the Valley because that’s where most of my auditions were (I was still acting at the time), but there wasn’t any city that seemed appealing to me. She asked me to put all that acting stuff aside for a moment, and to simply imagine where I wanted to live. My heart immediately said Valencia. It didn’t make any logical sense, but for the first time in years, I felt an enormous sense of relief in finally admitting the truth!
Days later, I was looking online and spotted a beautiful new home right on the border of Santa Clarita and Valencia. We drove up there, and as soon as we stepped foot into the model home, I knew that we had found our new place. I called our realtor from the street and told him we were ready to put our house on the market and that we had our new house picked out too. Our house sold on opening weekend. I whole-heartedly believe it was because we had created a vacuum for joy, and it all began with letting go of what no longer served us. Listening to my heart and moving to Valencia also allowed me to gently release my acting career, and to step into something much greater — the calling of my Soul.
When we feel stuck in any area of our lives, that’s a great time to start going through our belongings to see what isn’t a match for who we are and where we want to be. When we get the ball rolling on the outer plane, big things start happening.
3 Tips for Packing and Moving to a New Home
Create a packing calendar.
Start from your estimated moving date, and work backwards. There are some things that can be packed early, such as extra bedding, towels and books. There are other things that you’ll need to use as you go. Having a calendar printed out and filled in makes the whole moving process so much smoother. Let’s say some family or friends stop by and want to help. Great! You can simply refer to the calendar and see what task is listed for that particular day or week. The plan will give you great peace of mind.
Create or download a checklist for changing your address.
It will be a blessing to have all that information in one place, and you might be able to divide and conquer when it comes to this one.
Make it a priority to set up your kitchen first in your new home.
There’s something comforting about knowing that your meals will be taken care of while you unpack the rest of your belongings. I think getting your kitchen, bedroom and bathroom in working order will give you the greatest peace of mind.
